FAQ

Q: What is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)?

A: MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) is often confused with UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships). MMA is the combination of multiple styles of martial arts that allow for the fighter to be the most balanced and well rounded fighter overall. UFC, Bellator, Valor Fights, and other fight promotions are a means for martial artists to test their skills. At Guardian MMA we promote competition at every level, while still providing the hobbyist a comfortable environment to develop their skills.

Q: What are the requirements to join your competition MMA team?

A: In order to fight with our team of amateur and professional fighters you must meet certain criteria, as well as gain the recommendation of your coaches.

First, we require team members to have attained at least a blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu. Most, if not all, fights end up on the ground at some point, so it is absolutely imperative that you can intelligently defend yourself on the ground. Secondly, having a good striking skill set (boxing, Muay Thai, etc.) is a must. Finally, we believe that “Hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard.” In order to fight with us, you must have the drive and determination to be a champion.

Participation in the MMA team is by invitation only. Coaches will issue an invitation to students when they believe they are ready to participate. If you have additional questions about our competition MMA teams, please call us at 615-895-1667.
